Mrs. Doreen Scott, a native of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, is the wife of the 10th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Terry D. Scott. They married May 10, 1980. Mrs. Scott was a strong supporter of her husband's military career, moving to a wide variety of places including Scotland, Japan and Bahrain.
Mrs. Scott became involved in establishing Family Support Groups at several commands, and serving as advisor to these groups. She also served as chapel accompanist at several base chapels and local churches, and a member of various chapel and church choirs, and base chapel Women's Bible Study groups. In Bahrain, she served as an Assistant Director of Children's Church.
During her husband's tour as Chief of the Boat on the USS Jacksonville, Doreen became active as an advisor to the Command Ombudsmen. This support continued with each successive tour, including Doreen's attendance at Ombudsman Basic Training.
Upon Master Chief Scott's selection as MCPON, Mrs. Scott became the Ombudsman-at-Large for ADM Vern Clark and following on with ADM Michael Mullen. In this position, she visited with Navy families, ombudsmen and various Program Directors and leadership at bases around the country and the world, serving as their advocate regarding quality of life programs and issues. Additionally, Mrs. Scott served on several executive-level boards and committees, organized the CNO/MCPON Senior Enlisted Panel Spouse's agenda for the annual meetings and volunteered for the USO. She worked closely with Naval Services FamilyLine and was involved in the development and revision of several Guidelines publications. In 2005 - 2006, Mrs. Scott worked closely with Task Force Navy Family in their Ombudsman/Volunteer Response Cell to respond to emergent requirements as a result of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
Mrs. Scott was instrumental in developing the CMC/COB Spouse Leadership Course at the Command Leadership School in Newport, RI. She served as Chairman of the Advisory Board and Senior Advisor until her husband's retirement in July 2006.
Mrs. Scott continues to support ombudsmen and Navy families in her work with Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) as a Family Readiness Programs Analyst for the Ombudsman Program.
